The latest MLP episode
For those unaware, in the latest episode she was shown clumsily destroying the town, talking with slurred speech, and was officially referred to as “Derpy.” She’s officially the mentally handicapped joke character, just like fandom has always wanted her to be.
I’ve received countless asks about this, so I figure you’re all wanting a reaction. But really, if you’ve read any of my posts regarding the “Derpy Hooves” character, you know exactly how I feel about it.
Absolutely disgusted.
This is a low I had not expected. I really don’t even know what to say. I have lost so much respect for the creators after this.
*sighs* Here we go….
I know I’ve ranted way too much on this subject, but let’s show you why I get so pissed at “DERPY IS OFFENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!1111”
You realize that no one makes fun of her in the show for being clumsy/absent-minded, right? Also no where in the show does it ever say she’s mentally handicapped like you claim she is. She was a child-like, awkward, voice and is just generally clumsy. Rainbow Dash clearly was annoyed by her being so clumsy.
But here’s the thing,
Clumsy =/= retarded.
Having walleyes =/= retarded.
Speaking in a slow tone/or generally having a slow voice =/= retarded. And trust me, I’ve met several people who have a ‘slow’ sounding voice and their thought process is completely fine.
Also, I love how you claim that she’s offensive to people with autism and Cerebral Palsy. I have seen many people claim the exact opposite, in fact. I have seen people say that they have autism or Cerebral Palsy and that they love Derpy. I, myself have a Cerebral Palsy (a mild form, however) and I absolutely love Derpy and find her to be a nice little ad-on on the show. Now, I realize that I do not speak for the entire disabled community, but the majority of the people I have seen with what you claim is offensive, actually likes her.
The thing is, is that people get way too offended at the slightest thing, and usually the things they get offended at don’t even apply to them. This is one of those cases. You are getting riled up over a character in a show made for little girls. Oh, wait, we can’t have a “mentally handicap” character on the show ‘cause that’s ableism, right?
Another thing is:
